SAS Water Ltd were contacted by Sally Potter, General Manager of the Old Hall Hotel, Buxton, to complete a Legionella Risk Assessment and to check that the water tanks, valves, taps and showers were working efficiently and to a high standard.
Lizzie Froggatt, Managing Director of SAS Water, said: “We were asked to inspect and assess the water systems at the Old Hall and to produce a report for Sally, the General Manager. We cleaned and disinfected the cold water storage tanks and also provided on-site training on the Legionella monitoring routines as a requirement of ACoP L8, HSG274.
“Legionella bacteria is a natural occurrence and it is important to counteract it through proactive management. It was pleasing to see that the Old Hall was taking water safety very seriously and wanted to pursue a comprehensive risk management programme.
“Our on-site training gives an easy to follow programme of safety regimes for Legionella Control. We have maintained our relationship with Sally and her team at the Old Hall and will be completing annual Legionella routines.
“The staff at the Old Hall were extremely helpful, ensuring that we had important information, such as fire safety plans available, and they responded positively and acted quickly on our recommendations.
“It was a delight to work in the historic surroundings of the Old Hall, which is reputed to be the oldest hotel in England. ”
Sally Potter, General Manager of the Old Hall, said: “SAS Water carried-out a comprehensive inspection and showed us how to carry-out routine testing. They explained everything thoroughly and the training SAS provide means we are confident in what we need to do.
“Legionella testing is important and the SAS assessment and training gave us peace of mind that we are doing all that we can to ensure safety standards are very high.”
By law, hotels are required to carry-out Legionella Risk Assessments. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 also requires you to provide evidence that you have accessed expert advice.
