A microbiologist has recently shared his ritual when he returns home from being away and it might change your routine for ever.
Dr Tom Makin immediately runs his shower for 20 minutes without getting into it. After it is turned off, he doesn’t return top the bathroom for a further 20 minutes.
He told the Mail on Sunday newspaper that his actions are a measure to prevent Legionella bacteria as stagnant water in a shower head can harbour the bacteria.

Legionella can cause pneumonia and organ failure, both of which can prove fatal.
Dr Makin said: “I cover my nose and mouth with one hand and turn on the shower with the other. After around 20 minutes, I will turn the shower off and I won’t go back into the bathroom for at least another 20 minutes.”
